It was a short meeting, but a lot was accomplished. We finalized the date for our September retreat. We will have a special meeting and a potluck dinner at one of the Meadows Foundation houses. Please mark your calendars for Septempber 27th. Invitations will be sent out later. This will be our first meeting for the next season.

We also determined that the theme for our annual Advent Breakfast will be Stars. Thank you, Evan (a guest at the Womens’ Guild meeting) you were a great help with coming up with this!

So start thinking of some star-filled advent songs which we can sing on Dec 5th. We will send out save-the-dates to the various churches later this summer.

An Appeal!

We are running very low on our prayer shawls, so please keep your needles in motion this summer while on vacation or where ever! If you cannot knit, crochet, or don’t have the time for it but still want to contribute, please consider donating yarn or money towards yarn. The shawls are always received with much appreciation!

Women’s Guild – Work and Play

Events

General

Items of Interest

Women's Guild

Children

volunteers

On March 15th, we finally sat down to watch the movie, The Whale Rider. This was an activity we had planned for our last retreat but never had gotten to do. Thank you, Janet, for getting us the movie! We all enjoyed it very much. We invited the others who where still around to join us. The kids soon decided that the beginning was too scary to keep watching, but those that stayed enjoyed it. It is a powerful message that is crafted into this story. If you were not able to watch with us, I can recommend it to watch it yourself!

Then on Saturday, Mar 28th, we once again showed that many hands make light work! With the help of Junior Girls Scout troop 71669, 5th grade from Cranbury, we had a clean-up day. The girls are working on their Bronze award (the highest award a junior Girl Scout can get) and they picked House of Manna for their service project. So from 9:00 until 11:00 we cleaned all the chairs and tables in the Fellowship Hall, top, and bottom. And you would be surprised to discover how much dirt and unmentionables we found under the tables and chairs. Then we cleaned the woodwork in the Fellowship Hall, all the doors we cleaned and even the bathrooms were done. Meanwhile, the women of the church cleaned in the kitchen, the windowsills got a good going over, glass doors were cleaned. The cabinets were emptied and reorganized. House of Manna supplied their own plates so we put ours back in our cabinets and put away the new plates. We looked at all the items in the cabinets and made a decision if it still was used and needed by the church or that a toss was the better way to go. It was a lot of work but it is so satisfactory to see all the gleaming surfaces and know that everything is clean again!

A big thank you to: Allison, Brittany, Elina, Ellen, Ethel, Evelyn, Imma, Janet, Joan, Kathleen, Katie, Kelly, Lisa, Maggie, Nicole, Norma, Olivia, Petra, Premilla, Renee, Sandy, Susan, Tessa, Theresa and Walter.

Tea Party, Retreat, CWS Collection

Women's Guild

Earlier this year, we decided to revive our annual Tea Party. We were not sure how the congregation would receive it. Now we can say that most of the people liked it. The tables were nicely laid and the flower decorations added a nice touch. It was very nice of Ellen, Janet and Bruce to make these flower arrangements and even use teapots as vases. The food was all delicious and was of a good variety; there was something for everybody’s taste. Thank you to everybody who helped in one way or the other! I hope we can keep the tradition alive now and have another party next year.

We are still working on the program for our retreat on Sep 5th and 6th in the Poconos. If you are planning to go, let Erie know so she can keep a total count for all the preparations. We have a full program in the works; it promises to be a rewarding trip.

On the sign-up-board in the Fellowship Hall you will find a sheet for our Church World Service collection. We are collecting for school kits this year. If you want to donate anything, please write your name and the quantity down. A pattern for a school bag is on the board behind the sign up sheet. We hope to send 25 complete kits to CWS in the early fall.

Prayer shawls are still being made, although I do find I go slower when the weather gets hot. Still there are people out there who will benefit from one. If you know someone who could use a shawl, let me know and we will make one!Â

We will not meet over the summer in order to give everybody time to enjoy the nice weather. Our next regular meeting will be on Oct 18th, as our retreat comes in place of the September meeting.

We are still in need of a theme for our Advent Breakfast on Dec 6th.
