Can you imagine how it would be to shower but not be able to give your hair a good wash once in a while? They go out and play in the dirt or get themselves wet while playing.

To help the guests of House of Manna with this, we will once again collect bottles of shampoo and conditioner. Just leave them in the basket in the Randolph Room or give them to Erie. Thank you all so much for your help with this worthwhile project!

Our Women’s Guild has interacted with many such women, but there has been one in particular whom we feel has assisted our outreach ministries in a very special way; and most of us don’t even know her name – Yvette Molina. Yvette Molina works on staff in the administration of Elijah’s Promise Soup Kitchen. While we were planning the start of our House of Manna, Yvette was instrumental in getting the program off the ground. Every time there is a special holiday on a Tuesday or Thursday, Yvette is the one who drives the van over here filled with boxed dinners for House of Manna clients to take home.

There will be a program of recognition for Yvette Molina by the Women’s Guild
All First Reformed Church women are invited to a special breakfast on
Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 9:30 – 11:00 am.
The menu will include: egg casseroles, danish & coffee cake, juices, coffee & tea, amongst other breakfast treats
Please bring a friend [or two!]
RSVP by: April 18th

The Spring-cleaning that was planned with the Rutgers volunteers was snowed out. However, we will try again on Apr 17th. We have asked a Girl Scout troop to help us this time. We are waiting for their answer.

On Apr 24th, we will honor Yvette Molina for all she has done and still is doing for House of Manna. We will do this by organizing a brunch. The final details for this celebration will be made at our next meeting on Mar 21st.

On Mar 5th, the Church Women United will celebrate World Day of Prayer with a gathering. Crossroads is planning a retreat again in April; if you are interested please see Erie for more details.

I hope to see all of you at our next meeting, which should start a little earlier as the last one.

Some people would say that we bless them since we have opened our Fellowship Hall to the House of Manna – Family Feeding Program. However, we can also say that we are likewise blessed since they have come amongst us! How? Well, just the last month has proved this to be true. First of all, the Elijah’s Promise organization paid for the repair of the dishwasher, which was over $700. That was a blessing. More importantly, though, was their support in getting us a volunteer from their organization, who stripped the Fellowship Hall floor and put three coats of wax on it. It shone beautifully for Good Friday and Easter Sunday, even though there had been so many groups using our facilities over that particular weekend, including the 163 people who were fed on Maundy Thursday at House of Manna. Wow!

There are so many other blessings being provided though through the Family Feeding Program, namely, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital has organized regular Community Health Promotion Programs during the meals. Here are the workshop topics: in January – HIV Testing, February – Healthy Snacks, March – Sharing Stories Breast Cancer Awareness Theatre, April- Fun Fitness for the Family, May – Love Don’t Hurt Domestic Violence Awareness Theatre, and in June – Summer Safety.

We are so thankful that the RWJUH – Community Health Promotion Program has taken on this task of providing good information to a population that is often neglected. Indeed, we all are being blessed
through this partnership of caring for those in need.

The past couple of months the number of folks we have be feeding has increased. Presently there are regularly 25 – 45 people receiving meals. Even though we have Elizabeth, who is hired by Elijah’s Promise, we still need to have a few more volunteers.
Anyone is invited to sign up on elijahspromise@volunteerhub.com. Or, if that is too formal, just show up between 5:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Elizabeth always can have support in serving and washing up.
