It’s been “About 15 Years” since our first camping trip to the Warwick Conference Center. We are inviting everyone who has ever been a part of this community building adventure to join us Aug. 8th – 10th this year for our annual trip. For those to whom camping does not include a tent, consider staying in the Main House, but don’t miss out on the fun. Some may even want to consider coming for the day on Saturday and enjoying the community meal and campfire. This year, we will be learning about a “Mummy” and his friends. For all the details, speak to Lauren or Gary Bernhofer.

Those of you who have attended some of the lunchtime recitals know that we often have in the audience a group of students from Livingston School, along with their teacher, Agnes Crespo. They have really appreciated the chance to hear live performances by professional musicians. They are great audience members, soaking up the music attentively and asking questions about the music or instruments or performers at the close. Now they want to give us a musical “thank you” in the form of a concert by their string ensemble, their band, and their woodwind ensembles.

Mother’s Day was a busy morning at FRC, with everyone scurrying about. Â The Christian Education Mother’s Day Breakfast was an opportunity to sit for a few minutes and enjoy a warm start to the day. Â The menu included a delicious egg, sausage and cheese casserole, waffles, and sausage links. Â The committee raised $70 towards their 2008 budget. Â Thank you to everyone who helped to make our fund raiser a success, and an extra special “Thank you” to all our Moms, who even provided the food. Â (Editor’s note: And a special “Thanks!!” to Lauren, Gary and Sandy who put the meal together!)

On Sunday, May 18th, Walter Boyles was confirmed during our regular service. This celebration was the culmination of almost two years of meetings, discussions, curriculum planning and teaching. Sandy, Hartmut and members of the Christian Education Committee did not want to simply proclaim Walter confirmed because he reached a predetermined age. We all wanted this to be meaningful. Covering traditional Reformed theology with Walter was not possible. So what could be done? [ more » ]

I don’t know, but when Erie Beemsterboer decided to put my daughter Allison together with me into the lead position of a dance called Gort met stroop, she caused a calamity and a blessing at once. The calamity happened, because neither Allison nor I knew in those moments right from left. Had we been engineers, we would have derailed the train, but this way it just ended in chaos. The blessing, however, came when the audience at Hofstra University’s annual spring festival understood this to be endearing.
And this year’s show at Hofstra continued in this vein. Never before did our group receive so many comments and signs of appreciation. The accompanying pictures show this well: lots of laughter, affection and joyous swirls. And the weather was simply gorgeous. May 4th was a great day for our Dutch Dancers at Hofstra University.
Thank you, Erie, for having organized this so well!

Many thanks to all those who attended the Hall Education Fund’s Square Dance and Silent Auction on Saturday, Mar 29th at the Presbyterian Church. It appeared that a good time was had by all who attended. It provided a time to visit and meet people from the other churches who are partners with First Reformed Church in supporting the Hall Fund. In addition, over $2,000 was raised to enrich our scholarship fund.
On May 27th, the Hall Education Fund will conduct the annual interviews of the young people who have applied to us for financial help. This year there are eleven candidates from three high schools: New Brunswick High School, Health, Science and Technology High School and Piscataway Vo-Tech. All of the students are New Brunswick residents. It is always a sobering, and ultimately uplifting, experience to listen to their stories.
Heartfelt thanks to those of you who support this important work.
