We, the members of First Reformed Church are taking a big step in planning for the restoration and preservation of our church, education building, and sexton’s house, all of which are listed on the National Historic Register.Â
Would you like to see the analysis of the buildings and the initial plan prepared by historic architect Margaret Westfield and her associates? Here is a link to the full Preservation Plan PDF file: http://www.doornail.net/HSM_Pres_Plan.pdf (It’s just over 20 MB so it may take a while to download –unless you have a high speed connection.)Â
In our Christian witness and stewardship of the church we are part of a 240-year ministry at this site. We recognize all who have gone before and we feel surrounded at present by friends and neighbors of the church, and folks who are interested in the history of New Brunswick, of Rutgers University, of the Reformed Church in America and, more generally, the Dutch in America.Â
If you would like to contribute to the Phase I effort—raising $750,000 in matching funds that will allow us to apply for $750,000 from the New Jersey Historic Trust—please pledge a gift or send an outright contribution to First Reformed Church, 9 Bayard St., New Brunswick, NJ 08901. Call (732) 545-1005 if you have questions about the buildings, the plan, or the process. Or come to Q&A sessions after worship on September 23 and 30, October 7 and 14, and to Commitment Sunday on October 21.
