The Fund-raising Committee and the Invitation & Outreach Committee have joined forces! We have been hard at work these past few months brainstorming fund raising events and ways to raise funds for the Preservation Project. We will be planning a lecture series for Fall 2009, which will explore spirituality today. We hope that this will be reflective of the times we are in and address people’s need to understand spirituality. [ more » ]

Those of you who have attended some of the lunchtime recitals know that we often have in the audience a group of students from Livingston School, along with their teacher, Agnes Crespo. They have really appreciated the chance to hear live performances by professional musicians. They are great audience members, soaking up the music attentively and asking questions about the music or instruments or performers at the close. Now they want to give us a musical “thank you” in the form of a concert by their string ensemble, their band, and their woodwind ensembles.

Quite a few people remarked how enlightening the answers were from the various groups which formed during the Getting-to-Know-You event we held in April. The Invitation & Outreach Committee provided each table with a variety of questions, which really instigated some great and in-depth conversations for over forty minutes or so. Smiles appeared on faces, and laughter was heard all around Fellowship Hall.
We hope that many of US will participate again on June 1st, this time sitting down with a different group of folks so that the conversations may provide a wonderful catalyst for us to get to know one another.

[Gallery=6]Remember last November when the Invitation and Outreach Commitee had its Think Spring: Bulb Fund-Raiser? Many of you chose to have the bulbs you purchased planted in the church yard.
This spring we saw the first results of that planting. As the years go by, these flowers will multiply and eventually fill the yard with uncountable and beautiful blossoms.  Â
Thank you, all of you, who supported this endeavor.

The House of Manna is going well. Elijah’s Promise hired a lovely woman by the name of Elizabeth who is helping to co-ordinate the delivery of the food and the volunteers. Oftentimes, I see her in the kitchen with two little girls trailing her. They are her “little helpersâ€. We have been feeding between 5–18 children and adults. It is building a reputation slowly – word is getting out about the program. If you haven’t volunteered for a Tuesday or Thursday, please sign up online at the following address: elijahspromise@volunteerhub.com.
Brrrr …This was some of the weather during the week of February 10 thru February 16. That was the week that First Reformed Church hosted the overflow men from the Ozanam Shelter. There were between 12 – 15 men who spent the night. They were provided a warm and dry place to sleep and some food and beverages.
Random House Dictionary defines the word thank as: to express gratitude, appreciation, or acknowledgement. I think all of these feelings are for Jim Hance and Josh Bernhofer. Without their leadership and work there would have been no shelter for the homeless men. Help was solicited and gotten from Calvery Chapel and Highland Park Reformed Church. That is not to say that we here at First Reformed did not take part because we did. Women and men from the different churches volunteered to spend the evenings.
Thank you all!!!
