Free Spirits

Welcome back to our fun Seniors’ group! We will be missing yet another of our regulars – Vincent Parker! But I’m sure that we will be able to remember great stories of him.

In September, let’s gather for lunch at noon on September 16th. Bring any ideas for short excursions or other activities with you, which we could do together.

Any members over 65 years of age (or even your friends) are welcome to participate in the FRC Free Spirit group.

Free Spirits Plan Museum Trip

by Rev. Susan Kramer-Mills on May 5, 2009

in Events,Free Spirits,General,Items of Interest

At our gathering in April, we watched the documentary, On The History Trail, which showed an interview with Pastor Hartmut by local historian Mark Noenstied. It told the history of First Reformed Church, and especially it showed the odds and ends of our sanctuary, church tower, and the clock. We all enjoyed it greatly.

In May, we are hoping to go down to the Princeton Sculpture Museum. Pastor Susan is going to find out the details and will inform the group as to the date and time for us meeting there. Most likely, we will go on May 20th and eat lunch at the café, which is located there.

Hopewell for a Summer Break

by Rev. Dr. Hartmut Kramer-Mills on August 19, 2008

in Free Spirits

Our Seniors’ Club, Free Spirits, recently exercised great skill when choosing an appropriate location to seal off their program year and go into the summer break: they went for a lunch in the town of Hopewell. What a prophetic name this is! And the Bistro is very special there and well known by those of us who enjoy genuine Hungarian cuisine.

The accompanying pictures give a true sense of our table talk that day:
“God and the world, and Pastor Susan holding up the specials.” Yet it is true, if there is one group in our church that tries to be informed about everything, from the Sunday School curriculum to the seriousness of brick-and-mortar, it is our Seniors’ Club. A church within the church, they hardly allow any item to escape their attention, and many of their reflections have had an impact on the ministry of our church. Thank you, Free Spirits, for yet another year of faithful caring for God’s church!

Luncheon Scheduled in Hopewell

In April we gathered as a women’s group, since all the men were indisposed. There was a great deal of talk and good sharing about politics and events around the world.

Our next gathering will be May 28th at noon. We decided to have lunch at the Hopewell Valley Bistro & Inn which is located right on Route 518. Hopewell is a lovely town and the bistro has a nice veranda, offering a wide variety of salads, sandwiches and entrees – all at affordable prices. If you want to arrange transportation, please call Pastor Susan. She will be leaving the Church office around 11:30 a.m. Hope to have you come along with us!!

Free Spirits Rescheduling

by Rev. Susan Kramer-Mills on April 3, 2008

in Free Spirits

We had our wings clipped again last month due to conflicts with scheduling. However, we do want to get back in flight for April, so mark your calendars for April   16th at noon. Pastor Susan will be investigating a few topics of interest.

Just be ready for some fun and good laughter! Don’t forget to bring your lunch!

Free Spirits Celebrate Mardi Gras

by Church Staff on January 31, 2008

in Free Spirits,General

The Free Spirits met on a spur of the moment at the end of January and decided to celebrate Mardi Gras. Well, it certainly did not look like a Rio de Janeiro celebration. Nevertheless, there was merry-making, sharing of political jokes and cartoons, and Pastor Susan provided a bit of a “historical perspective” on the development of the holiday (i.e., the party before Ash Wednesday and the season of Lent & fasting).

The next gathering of the Free Spirits is Feb. 27th at noon. Of course, there will be some theme or short program provided. All Seniors are welcome to come; bring your lunch and join the funny round table.
