Adult Education Class

Interested in Science, Faith and the Meaning of the Universe? Too often, we Christians define our identity mainly by comparison with other Christian groups. But if other Christian groups did not exist, would we still know who we are? And what … Continue reading

What Age Do You Have To Be To Play Hand Bells?

That question is easily answered: As old or as young as you want to be! Only one thing is necessary: you need to hold at least one bell in your hands. And our Bell Choir is the living example of this, we span all generations in our group. On April 22, we had three generations of one family playing. Aliece, Evan, and Emily Sena played along with their grandmother Janet Waanders in the choir. It is my pleasure to be in the position where I can see the joy in the faces of all players when they ‘get it’. And that can be just about anything, such as, getting a sound out of that quirky C6, ring the right bell on the right time, not to mix up your hands, or even get those heavy bells to shake like the director wants you to do. Women’s Guild Update

The Women of the Church met for a short meeting on April first, when we mainly talked about details for upcoming events.

Thank You to all who donated time, food, and energy to the Room for All Conference. The conference was attended by around 25 people. On Thursday we provided them with dinner; and on Friday we served a lunch donated by Metuchen Reformed Church. In all it was a successful event. Continue reading

Bell Choir

The Bell Choir is working very hard on a new piece; it is a challenge for all of us. Some ringers are working on new techniques; most of us are working with a rhythm that is somewhat unfamiliar. When we are practicing it starts to sound very nice. We will play this song during the Mother’s Day service, and then work on one more piece before the bells get a summer rest. You will want to come and hear us! Continue reading

Third Annual Martha Award Celebration

The women of the church are preparing for their Third Annual Martha Award Breakfast. On March 3rd we will gather once again and celebrate a woman from the New Brunswick community who goes above and beyond her call to do something good for the residents of New Brunswick. This year we have chosen Agnes Crespo, a music teacher in the New Brunswick school district. For years she has brought groups of her students to our Lunchtime Recitals, students she feels would benefit from a specific concert, sometimes it is because the performer plays the same instrument or another good reason to bring them. It must not be easy to do that since so many districts have trouble finding funding for field trips. But every year she comes walking with a group of students from the Livingston School to have these children experience some life music and a nice luncheon afterwards.
A sign up list will be posted for all to sign up to bring some breakfast items. We have some gifts for Agnes in the making to go with her Award. I hope that all of you can come and support us at the Award. The breakfast is open to all. Continue reading

The Advent Breakfast – Another Fine Gathering!

The Women’s Guild kept the tradition of their Annual Advent breakfast going, by opening our doors to women from all different churches again on December 3rd. This year we enjoyed a skit written by Rev. Susan and performed by Susan, Lolly, Lara and Heather. They portrayed three shepherds who were awestruck when they Angel appeared from upon high. The message included a contemporary reference to the present protests around the
world for more economic justice and thus was titled “Occupy Bethlehem. Continue reading
